A secluded section of Turtle River
The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed Turtle River State Park in the 1930s. Located on the meandering Turtle River, 22 miles west of Grand Forks, North Dakota, this gorgeous State Park is situated in a scenic wooded valley. The park offers year-round outdoor adventure opportunities, including North Dakota fishing, wildlife observation and picnicking.

Turtle River State Park also features many trails for hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. Mountain bikers are bound to enjoy the 2.5-mile trail specifically designated for their use. Cross-country ski trails and a sledding hill are also available. A heated warming house is open during the winter months for park visitors’ comfort.

In addition, there are numerous North Dakota campgrounds in this park. Rustic group cabins can also be rented.

Anglers are the most common visitors to Turtle River State Park. The Turtle River is well stocked with rainbow trout. Younger anglers can even borrow fishing gear at the Turtle River State Park office.
