Former President Theodore Roosevelt’s
private retreat is still standing behind the Medora Visitors center.
The first President to see and act on the importance of preserving
America’s natural heritage, Theodore Roosevelt created the
national park system, and the park that bears his name is a magnificent
one. It, and the protected Little Missouri Grasslands, boast over
200 miles of hiking, biking and riding trails and is home to as
many species of deer, sheep, elk, bison, prairie dogs and wild
horses. Nearby Medora is a restored frontier town
with modern amenities and shopping.
