Bismarck is North Dakota’s Capital. The Capital
building is a magnificent1930’s Art Deco structure known locally
as the Skyscraper of the Prairie. Visitors interested in North Dakota’s
history can find out just about everything there is to know Bismarck’s
massive North Dakota Heritage Center, featuring a statue of Lewis &
Clarke guide and North Dakota native Sacagewea.
Other popular Bismarck activities include going to the Dakota Zoo or
basking in a little culture care of the Bismarck Art & Galleries
Association. Hoops fans might catch the Dakota Wizards take on one of
their rivals in the CBA.
Mandan, named after the original Native American inhabitants of the
region, lies directly across the Missouri River, from Bismarck.
The area surrounding Bismarck and Mandan
is also rich in historical sights-to-see. There are a number of historic
forts, the Dakota Dinosaur Museum and Sue, the World’s Largest
Holstein Cow Statue.
