Lake sakakawea is situated on the river Missouri in central north Dakota. It is the third largest man made lake in US. The lake was created with the completion of Garrison Dam. The lake is a home to many summer camps. The lake is 360,000 acres in area with 1,500 miles of shoreline. With hundreds of bays and beaches the lake is best known for its fabulous walleyes, northern pike, small mouth bass, salmon, perch and crappies. The year round fishing , sailing, boating and golfing attracts number of people from round the world. The garrison dam, fish hatchery, abdubon national wildlife refuge, knife river Indian villages national historic site, Lewis & Clark visitor center are nearby places worth visiting. The size of the lake offers acres of wide open area for fishing and water sports. The sailboats and the wind surfers find plenty of wind energy to urge their crafts forward.
