Flora of Lake Phelps
Lake Phelps in North Carolina is a big, fresh water lake, some 5 miles across, with an average depth of 4 feet. The water is notably clear. Most of the bottom is white sand. The shoreline of Lake Phelps is lined with bald cypress trees that provide habitat for birds, turtles fish and other North Carolina wildlife.

Lake Phelps is known for it’s unpredictable conditions. Calm waters can turn to sizeable waves seemingly without warning. Also, because of the lake’s size, boaters would so well to keep their position relative to the shore in mind, as sudden storms can be quite hazardous.

Lake Phelps is one of the best of the North Carolina lakes, but has the added benefit of being uncrowded through most of the year, with the possible exception of hunting season. The winter is considered to be the best time for migratory bird watching at Lake Phelps.
