Lake Mattamuskeet is one of the most
beautiful North Carolina lakes. It’s located on the east
coast, in the center of Hyde County, just west of North Carolina’s
Outer Banks.
Lake Mattamuskeet is considered, along with Santee-Cooper Lake
on the North Carolina and South Carolina border one of the two
best places to catch largemouth bass in North Carolina.
The game fish are not limited to largemouth bass, however. Striped
bass and large catfish are numerous, and some stray saltwater
fish like flounder and jumping mullets can be caught. So can small
pan fish like bream, crappies, and blue-gills. Mattamuskeet is
also home to some truly enormous carp, though it’s very
rare to reel in one of these monsters with a hook and line.
Mattamuskeet is a quiet, shallow fishing lake, so while fishing
boats and motors are permitted on Lake Mattamuskeet, fast boats
and waters ports are not permitted
