Linville Caverns is a nice North Carolina cave with a cave river. The fish living in the cave are Speckled, Brown, and Rainbow trout. They are not true cave species, just occasional visitors. During the winter and early spring the Eastern Pipistrelle Bat hibernates in this cave.

The cave is geologically very interesting and certainly worth a visit. The river passage shows scallops and dolly tubs, and there are erosion-forms along the walls. Standing water left undisturbed for a very long time has formed some nice calcite crystals and cave coral. The cave is sometimes inaccessible when the water rises and the path is flooded.

The highlight at the end of the tour is the Bottomless Lake (actually 75m deep, which is close enough to bottomless for anyone who ends up in it). A metal bridge and electric lighting allows visitors a gaze deep into the clear water.
