Duck Beach is located on the north
end of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Strictly limited commercial
development has created a vacation destination with real ''old
beach'' charm.
Duck Beach is named for the large numbers of waterfowl that once
flocked here during migratory seasons. The town of Duck is a prosperous
year-round tourist town as well as a North Carolina vacation destination,
with many quaint boutiques, fine dining, and a variety of water
sports both on the sound and in the ocean.
Visitors to Duck Beach can take a break from the sand and surf
and enjoy an educational afternoon tour of the Army Research Pier,
which is a popular attraction. This fascinating facility studies
the dynamic natural processes of a barrier islands. Over the years
data gathered during hurricanes and Nor'easters have helped planners
and builders better understand the impact of wind, water, and
waves on coastal construction.
