Picturesque Chautauqua Lake in New York
is 17 ½ miles long, has a surface area of 13,156 acres and sits
at 1,308 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest navigable
bodies of water in North America. But it’s not the elevation that
draws visitors to New York lakes. Chautauqua offers phenomenal New York
fishing fore species like walleye, bass, muskellunge and many species
of panfish like perch, pumpkinseed and bullheads.
In order to provide these great fishing opportunities as well as other
attractions around Chautauqua Lake, New York State maintains numerous
public-use facilities, and the Department's Chautauqua Fish Hatchery
stocks muskellunge fingerlings into the lake every year.
There are shoreline fishing spots and public boating access points available
at the Prendergast Point Boat-launch and at the Long Point State Park
Marina. Public boating access is provided at the Bemus Point boat launch.
Additional shoreline fishing access is available at the Cheney Farm
and Stow properties. |
