New Mexico’s summer months (May through October) are the warmest and the wettest. July and August receive the most rainfall, approximately 35 percent of the annual total, which falls mainly during the state’s short thunderstorms. The temperature averages 90 degrees F in the height of summer, with colder temperatures in the higher altitudes.

January, unsurprisingly, is New Mexico’s coldest month. Normally temperatures range from 55 degrees F in the state’s central and southern valleys to 35 degrees F at higher elevations.
