The pueblos of Taos
Taos Pueblos has been inhabited for over a millennium and is the only living Native American Village that is both a World Heritage Site and a National Historic Landmark. The multi-storied, entirely adobe village houses 150 residents who live in the traditional lifestyle of the Pueblo Indians, and the Taos Pueblos lands around it comprise 99,000 acres and are home to 1,900 Native Americans. Taos Pueblos exists as a sovereign nation within the United States. Its official language is Tiwa, though most citizens also speak English, Spanish or both, and while most of the tribe is Catholic ancient beliefs and indigenous religious ceremonies are still observed.

Visitors to Taos Pueblos can experience a truly fascinating community. Tours are available at certain times and days of the week, in which guests may learn about the culture and history of the inhabitants and observe their ritual dances, music, art and unique architecture.
