Located in the Skylands portion of
the state, Ringwood has steadily grown in size since its first
inhabitants, the Ringwood Company in 1740. Luckily, for the region,
the size of the protected site has not influenced the “development”
therein.
Ringwood State Park is named after the ironmasters who formerly
set up shop here. For two hundred years, they used the onsite
river as power to yield and form their designs. Although the business
is long gone, some of the buildings still remain within the park’s
thousands of acres.
Currently, the park offers extensive activities for the outdoor
adventurer. There is a swim-specific hundred-acre lake, various
spots for fishing, multiple trails, ramps for canoes and small
sailboats and the extensive beauty of the surrounding New Jersey
forest.
