This popular bald eagle nesting ground
runs through southeast New Jersey on its way to the harbor along
the Atlantic. Seventeen tributaries filter into the corridor after
its modest inception in Berlin.
Most of the land traversed by Great Egg is within the boundaries
of the Pinelands National Reserve, meaning a lot of it is privately
owned and maintained land. The twenty or so percent that is considered
public makes for great canoeing and kayaking as well as a great
place to see endangered wildlife. Also, closer to the river’s
mouth, sail boating can be an interesting endeavor.
