This National Wildlife Refuge is also extremely close to an urban area, although the area is quite larger. Downtown New York City is a mere twenty-five miles from this site, a fact that would shock anyone enveloped in its interior.

Several rare and endangered species exist comfortably here, a place that gives an urban population a glimpse and resulting appreciation for the natural world around them. More than two hundred species of birds and a rich population of marshland amphibians and turtles are also protected.

Several abandoned plots of land that contained large homes have been cleared and reseeded in an effort to restore the land. Come see the progress mother nature is making.
