Wapack is the most thoroughly protected
wildlife refuges in New Hampshire. In attempts by those overseeing
the park to keep it as close to a natural habitat as possible,
they have banned all human activity besides hiking and general
observation.
The trail is an interesting one, about twenty miles long and offering
some of the best views the North Pack Monadnock Mountains have
to offer. The wildlife you will encounter here is decidedly wild,
namely because of the general lack of human involvement. Natives
include bears, minks, coyote, warblers, and sparrows. And if you
look up during peak migration periods, you’re bound to catch
a hawk swooping through your plain of vision.
