Very close to New Hampshire’s
Canadian border lies Fourth Connecticut Lake, one of the lushest
protected sites in the northeastern United States.
Only about 80 acres are currently being valiantly defended and
carefully exposed by the Nature Conservancy, but it doesn’t
take long to notice the distinctive beauty here.
A characteristically serene trail, highlighted by rare plants
and abundant wildlife, this path is sure to fascinate. The environment
shifts between bogs and ponds and thick forest floor along the
way. Visitors are also given the opportunity to skim the banks
of the lively Connecticut River.
The water houses some very interesting native growth, such as
the pitcher plant and bladderwort. Wildlife includes moose, the
three-toed woodpecker and a wide array of active waterfowl.
