Information on Elko Snobowl Ski & Winter Recreation Area:
The only ski resort in northeast Nevada, this private, non-profit developing resort is maintained and staffed by volunteers. Amenities include a 650-foot vertical drop and 100-acres of open bowl skiing for all levels and age groups. Two tow ropes and a new ski lift are available for the enjoyment of downhill and cross-country skiing, sledding and snow tubing. There is also a snack shack on-site serving refreshments. In January, 1998, the Snobowl took a big step towards becoming a quality ski resort with the startup of a chair lift. The lift has a top elevation of 7,000 feet and a base elevation of 6,300 feet. Ninety nine chairs carry the skiers up the 700 foot vertical climb. A rope tow is available for beginners at no charge. Different sides of the "bowl" provide runs that accommodate beginning skiers and challenge expert skiers. Natural snow conditions are enhanced by snow making. To further challenge the expert skier, some runs are not groomed. Ski Patrollers are certified by the National Ski Patrol and are on duty during operating hours.
