Rock formations at Red Rock Canyon
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is part of the Mojave Desert. This park is a located less than 20 miles from downtown Las Vegas. The area is famous for spectacular scenery, from its rugged red rock formations to its unusual vegetation to its wide open desert vistas.

Most visitors choose to bike, hike or rock-climb. For easy walking access to the sandstone, the Sandstone Quarry parking lot is a good place to start.

Others visitors drive along the 13-mile Scenic Loop, a picturesque circuit that provides plenty of stop-offs for photography. Either of the Calico Vista points make for excellent stops as both offer good vantage points for photographs of crossed-bedded Aztec sandstone. The Loop is open from 6 am until dusk.

Guests can stop off at the Visitor Center in order to orient themselves to the landscape. A gift shop and exhibits are also located in the Visitors Center.
