The Lahontan Reservoir is located
on the Carson River, 45 miles northeast of Nevada's Capital, Carson
City. The Lahontan Reservoir is approximately 17 miles long with
nearly 70 miles of shoreline. When it is completely full the Lahontan
Reservoir covers some11,200 surface-acres of water. This Nevada
lake is the perfect place to cool off, enjoy a bit of boating,
catch a few fish and camp out under the Nevada skies.
Boating is the main attraction at Lahontan Reservoir. Paved parking
and boat launching facilities are available on both sides of the
lake. Visitors with 4-wheel drive vehicles may launch from the
Boat Launch Areas on the beaches with campgrounds.
Anglers at Lahontan Reservoir can enjoy the year-round Nevada
fishing season. The Lahontan Reservoir is a warm-water fishery
that contains Sacramento perch, white bass, walleye, white crappie,
catfish, and brown and rainbow trout. Visitors are advised not
to eat anything they catch from this reservoir, however, as there
has been some serious mercury contamination.
