Hiking Great Basin National Park

Hiking Great Basin in NevadaAny Nevada hiking enthusiast will tell you that Great Basin National Park is best explored via National Park hiking. While that opinion is clearly biased, it is nevertheless correct. Great Basin National Park is a place where it is still possible to experience real solitude (and as such make sure you take the necessary precautions before any desert hike).

There are numerous trails to choose from in Great Basin National Park. The Upper Lehman Creek trail climbs along Lehman Creek (no surprises there) to the Wheeler Peak campground. The 2 forks of Big Wash lead hikers to the southern half of the park and its remote wilderness. Lexington Arch is a mile-long trail that leads to Lexington Arch (where were you expecting it to lead to, Lehman Creek?), a 6-story natural limestone arch. The Alpine Lakes Loop begins at Wheeler Peak Campground and forms a 3-mile loop that passes both Stella and Teresa Lakes. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg (metaphorically speaking, of course).
