Lehman Caves

Absalom Lehman discovered Lehman Caves at an altitude of 2133m above sea level. They are the highest show caves in the United States and extend into the limestone and low grade marble that flanks the base of the Snake Range.

Lehman Caves are among the most richly decorated caves in the United States, and are famous for their rare white speleothems; these are called shields, and consist of 2 circular halves that resemble flattened clam shells. Beneath an abundance of stalagmites, stalactites, draperies and flowstones there are extraordinary amounts of helictites.

A circular tour takes the visitors through most of the large chambers in the cave. There is only one trail, but there are 3 tours of different lengths. The shortest tour visits only the Gothic Palace, yet the middle tour is held more often.
