The Boulder River in Montana provides
visitors with opportunities for Montana fishing, gorgeous scenery
and enjoyable river floating. It is one of the most popular recreational
Montana rivers thanks to its varied terrain.
The upper section features fast currents with plenty of Class
III and Class IV whitewater. Secluded pools await anglers adventurous
enough to find them.
30 miles downstream from its origin the Boulder River flows through
the unique waterfall called the Natural Bridge Monument, disappearing
entirely into the rocks before re-appearing one 100 feet away
in 2 separate 100-foot waterfalls.
Below Natural Bridge, the Boulder River flows through mostly private
land and out into the high plains. The current of the Boulder
River slows as the countryside opens up and provides dazzling
vistas of the Montana mountains. The Boulder River runs for 30
more miles until its union with the Yellowstone River near the
town of Big Timber.
