The Blackfoot River in winter.
The Blackfoot River is one of the premier rivers in Montana. This wonderful Montana fishing river provides peaceful surroundings, breathtaking views, classic trout water habitat and excellent water quality.

Thanks in part to the 1992 movie A River Runs Through It the Blackfoot River is one of the most popular Montana rivers for fly-fishing and rafting. The rivers close proximity to Missoula has also led to an increased use of the river, but there remains plenty of elbowroom for paddler and anglers alike.
The fishing on the Blackfoot is, of course, excellent. This is due in large part to the outstanding management of the Montana FWP (Fish, Wildlife and Parks).

Much of the Blackfoot River is not used for fishing. An angler on the Blackfoot River may encounter whitewater enthusiasts running the rapids and, on the lower stretches of the river, people simply drifting down the river on various types of floating devises.
