To the western side of the Gallatin National Forest near Bozeman, Montana are the Gallatin Mountains, some of the most rugged peaks in the state. These Montana mountains provide visitors to Gallatin National Forest's with countless outdoor adventure opportunities, like the many miles of hiking trails, fishable Blue-ribbon trout streams, rivers, and high mountain lakes and reservoirs. The nearby Gallatin River is considered one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in the United States west of the Mississippi.

The late summer may be the peak tourist season in these northern reaches of Montana, but the winter offers countless thrilling outdoor adventures in the magnificent and untamed Gallatin Mountains. In the winter season the snow blanketed mountain peaks receive 400 inches of snow every year, insuring that the cross-country skiing trails are numerous and varied. Taking a backcountry ski tour is wonderful exercise as well as great fun, and provides outstanding opportunities for wildlife observation.
