This river is a challenge, namely
for its lack of upkeep. While some Mississippi rivers have national
park staff keeping them clear, Old Tombigbee is a mess. But this
is not necessarily a bad thing. It can be a lot of work and a
lot of fun to snake your way through downed trees and under overgrown
bushes. It also can be quite shallow at times, so canoes may not
be a good idea. The Old Tombigbee will probably be enjoyed most
by those with small kayaks since canoes may have difficulty weaving
through the foliage.
