Mississippi’s winters are short it’s summers
are long and humid. Summer temperatures don’t change much from
one part of Mississippi to another. The Gulf coast averages the same
as north-central Mississippi, around 80 degrees F in July. Due to the
influence of the Gulf of Mexico the winter temperatures on the southern
coast are much warmer than the north. Biloxi averages 52 degrees F in
January while Oxford averages 41 degrees F.
Precipitation in the south of Mississippi is heavier than the north.
The north-central part of the state averages approximately 50 inches
of precipitation a year while the coastal region sees just over 60 inches.
During the late summer and autumn Mississippi can experience hurricanes
moving up from the Gulf of Mexico.
