Mississippi - Longleaf Horse Trails

Mississippi Home | Mississippi Sitemap

Trail Description:

The Longleaf Horse Trail system is approximately 17 miles south of Laurel, Mississippi. The trail consists of three loops totalling 26 miles in length. The Long Loop is crossed by many Forest Service Roads which allows entry to the loop from many points.

A Trailriders Camp is located at the beginning of the system on Forest Service Road 213 B. Available at the camp are sanitary facilities, parking areas, hitching rails, and picnic tables. An adjacent pond can be used to water horses.

The trails are marked with orange and white arrows blazed on trees along each loop. The Long loop is marked in white. The arrows are placed at strategic points along the trials to make it easy to follow.

Throughout the area, the rider can observe the results of fifty-six years of forest management. The once cut-over slopes are now covered with well stocked stands of longleaf and slash pine. This green forest provides adequate water supplies, numerous forest products, and an ideal habitat for wildlife
