The storied and unquestionably beautiful
town is about half students attending Ole Miss University. It
is difficult to shake the days when Ross Barnett incited riots
on campus, but the town lurches forward and past that shameful
time.
Oxford was also home to William Faulkner, the famous novelist,
and his home is still intact, not far from campus. Town square
and the ensuing streets provide an apt backdrop for The Sound
and the Fury and is definitely worth a morning stroll. This area
boasts eclectic restaurants and cultural amenities such as shopping,
large college greens and the like.
So despite a sordid history, Oxford is a charming, progressive
distinctly southern town. But letting them tell you of their prime
hospitality is much more appropriate.
