The Bigfork River in Minnesota is
easy to canoe for most of its length. There are several Class
I rapids, but only 2 really difficult areas, namely the Class
IV to V whitewater at Little American Falls and Big Falls. Only
truly skilled and experienced paddlers should attempt these falls;
everyone else is advised to portage. All paddlers should use caution
at these Minnesota falls, and pay close attention to water-levels.
This is and excellent Minnesota fishing river. Game fish species
include walleye, northern pike and muskies.
There is abundant Minnesota wildlife to observe along the Bigfork.
Animals such as timber wolves, bobcats, lynx, beavers and otters
make their home in this region. Big game hunters can bag moose,
black bears and white-tailed deer (during the proper season and
with the necessary licenses). Bird watchers may catch a glimpse
of bald eagles, osprey, and many different kinds of ducks.
