Covering over than 200 square miles,
or 132,000 surface-acres, Lake Mille Lacs is 2nd largests of the
10,000 Minnesota lakes. While much of Lake Mille Lacs falls between
the 20 to 38 foot depth-ranges its maximum depth is 40 feet.
Lake Mille Lacs is one of Minnesota's best fishing lakes, both
in the summer and in the winter, when it becomes a popular Minnesota
ice fishing lake. The lake offers several different species of
game fish such as northern pike, muskie, jumbo perch and smallmouth
bass. It is a perfect spawning ground for walleye, and billions
of walleye eggs and fry are produced every year.
The shores of Lake Mille Lacs offer shallow reef-top fishing on
every side. Anglers looking to do a bit of deep-water Minnesota
fishing can cast in the southern end with its deep gravel and
rocks as well as on the northern ends numerous mud flats.
