Gooseberry Falls is actually a series of 5 waterfalls formed by the Gooseberry River just before it empties into Lake Superior. It is located in northern Minnesota's Arrowhead Country.
The falls are the Fifth, Fourth, Upper, Middle and Lower Falls. Upper Falls is located just above the bridge. The Middle and Lower Falls are 5 stories high, and are the more spectacular of the 5 falls; they are located just below the bridge. Fourth and Fifth Falls require a bit more hiking up river to reach, but are as spectacular but are much less frequented.
Gooseberry Falls has a magnificent, $3.5 million visitor-center that opened in 1996. Along with the inevitable gift shop, the center houses a multi-media information center. |
