Yellow Dog is only a short run; its four miles go by
all too quickly. But the National Wild and Scenic Rivers council decided
that a four mile span here was enough to designate distinctive status
and acclaim.
It is a wild stretch, cascading sharply downward, making for a challenging
jaunt. Varying vegetation makes for lush views, if you take the time
to stop and look around, and as in most Michigan Rivers, the trout are
abundant. The river calms and cruises through the Ottawa National Forest,
which is a good place to set up camp or take a break.
