This river can be rough in spots, with quick, cascading
falls and smooth in long stretches of calm water. There are plenty of
put ins and take outs, so it shouldn’t be a problem if you want
to take it easy, challenge yourself, or some combination of both.
The sandstone cliffs along the shoreline make a great perch for campers,
campers, hikers, and those that would rather skim the outlying land
and stay dry. The watershed makes for great natural observation and
hikes ranging from strenuous to safe. The Ontonagon’s sweeping
curves can become quite addictive, you may find yourself planning your
next trip around the great river.
