The Au Sable was established as a National Wild and Scenic River in 1984 and has gradually gained quite a reputation. It is an easy going stream that draws tons of canoe enthusiasts every year.

Spanning about 120 miles, twenty three of which are considered “wild and scenic,” Au Sable is no slouch. Advanced adventurers and novices alike enjoy this slow roll through Michigan forestry. In peak months, nearby towns can become crowded so plan ahead or look for more obscure lodging, if you’re not into sharing.
