Grand Rapids is a moderate city with enough of a downtown
to be considered large and enough pleasantries to keep that small town
charm. Tourists certainly don’t flock here, which is a bonus for
any quick stop or through trip.
Heritage Hills is an underappreciated stretch, lined with historic mansions
that vary stylistically and historically. The Frank Lloyd Wright designed
Meyer May House is pristinely restored and available for walkthroughs.
The Voigt House Victorian Museum offers décor that predates the
Meyer, ripe with elegance and distinction.
Grand Rapids also has the Fredrick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park,
which is a vast and beautiful link to the natural world.
Nearby Grand Haven and the Lake Michigan Waterfront offer various activities
and sightseeing opportunities. You can rent a charter or map out your
own trip along the far-reaching coastline.
