The Motor City is the state’s largest and most
metropolitan city. Although the gradual decline in population and useless
downtown outskirts have hurt the city’s national reputation, Detroit
is a vital addition to the Great Lakes region.
Currently rivaling Cleveland and Pittsburgh in regard to renovation
projects, Detroit is working on cleaning up its act. Royal Oak and Birmingham
are drawing visitors away from the expanse of downtown and into more
quaint, upbeat regions. Urban areas are working towards cleaner cultural
venues and lakefront venues.
Detroit is still working on its image, but for an interesting Michigan
town in transition, it offers plenty of fun.
