If you’ve had enough of the
marshy cape or just need a night or so in the thick of the forest,
Nickerson is perfectly situated for you. Resembling the forests
of the Appalachians or those further west, it seems to be transplanted
in close proximity to the sprawling Cape Cod region of Massachusetts.
Lacking rivers or even tiny waterways, Nickerson has only kettle
ponds. These can still work with a canoe or for a swim, but not
much else. The paths through the park are great for walking, running,
and horseback riding; any means is worth a trip amidst the offshore
hardwoods. Also, the trout are rampant here, for avid anglers.
So if you happen to love southeast Massachusetts for the flailing
Cape Cod, but aren’t into the accommodations, stop by Nickerson
and stay a few nights.
