Bash Bish Falls is Massachusetts’ most dramatic waterfall, and is perhaps the best-known and most frequently photographed waterfall in the state. A large boulder splits the falls into 2 80-foot cascades that ricochet off a rock wall and rejoin at the base. It then drops into Bash Bish Brook below. Dangerous currents force Massachusetts state park officials to prohibit swimming in the large, clear pool at the bottom.

Almost every Massachusetts hiking guide mentions this waterfall, and such high regard does have a downside. As many as 3,000 people a day visit the falls on hot weekend summer days. Bash Bish Falls sees very few visitors in the cooler days of early spring, however.

Nearby Race Brook Falls is a perfect complement to Bash Bish. The falls are only a few miles apart.
