Beautiful Boston Public Garden
Established in Boston, Massachusetts in 1837, Boston Public Garden was the 1st public botanical garden in the United States. In 1859 an Act of the Massachusetts Legislature made sure the Public Garden was preserved forever as an open space for the citizenry of the City of Boston No visit to Bean Town would be complete without a visit to this metropolitan oasis, which is maintained by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department with additional help from the Friends of the Public Garden.

The garden covers 24 acres on what was once marshland. It follows the design of landscaper George V. Meacham, the winner of a public competition for which he received an award of 100 dollars. Throughout the next 130 years there have been modifications made to the garden to accommodate the ever-greater foot traffic. New types of plants have been added, but always with the initial design always in mind.
