Strolling along West Dennis Beach.
White sand, cooling ocean breezes, and an inspiring view of Nantucket Sound, make the West Dennis Beach on of the most beautiful Cape Cod beaches. While the beach itself is narrow, it is very long and has ample room for beach goers. There is a snack bar, public restrooms, and a small playground for children. It is a perfect place to spend a summer day.

Generally, the surf at West Dennis Beach is very light.

While kite flying is allowed on the beach, there is a separate area that is designated solely for kite flying. Brisk ocean winds from Nantucket Sound make wind surfing a very appealing activity here. However, swimming is the number one activity visitors pursue at West Dennis Beach. The gentle surf and cool water temperatures make a great combination for an invigorating swim.

Dennis is a well-developed town so wildlife is limited to sightings of some typical seabirds such as gulls and sandpipers.

There are no shortages of places to eat and stay when visiting Dennis. West Dennis summer rentals, camping, RVs, house/cottage rentals, and hotels are abundant. For those wishing to stay right on West Dennis Beach, the Lighthouse Inn (www.lighthouseinn.com) is a great place. It is the only privately owned working lighthouse in the U.S. Two nearby restaurants that offer good food are the Swan River Restaurant (www.swanriverseafoods.com) and Clancy’s (www.clancysrestaurant.com).

No pets or alcohol allowed on the beach. Parking spaces are available at a fee. The spaces abut the edge of the beach so your car is very accessible during your stay.

The city of Boston is just two hours away. But when you arrive on the Cape, it feels like you are a thousand miles away. The Cape is a totally different lifestyle than Boston. It is a much more relaxed atmosphere. That’s why the people of Massachusetts love their Cape. The two of Dennis is a particularly appealing location as it sits midway on the Cape. Dennis tends to appeal more to an older crowd or to families, as it is quieter than other Cape towns and less commercial.

While the summer months are crowded, it is the perfect time for a visit as the weather is every warm and ideal for a trip to the beach. If you can hold out until September, the crowds diminish significantly.
