One wouldn’t normally think of New Hampshire beaches
for their New England vacation, but there is a small portion of the
state that is ocean-side. Hampton Beach is the hub of New Hampshire’s
ocean activity. The beach itself is long, wide, and very clean. With
dozens of hotels, restaurants, amusements, and shops, it’s a Mecca
for beach lovers from throughout New England.
The surf and tides of Hampton Beach can be quite strong
on occasion. Timid swimmers should be cautious when venturing into the
water. And be prepared, the water is COLD.
Parasailing and jet skiing are very popular at Hampton
Beach. Because of the size of the beach, Hampton Beach is a great beach
for walkers. The sand is firm and easy on the feet. There are numerous
volleyball nets set up on the beach and you will often find vigorous
games being played.
Hampton Beach is a very developed beach community so
wildlife is limited. But for those willing to venture offshore, whale
watching in this area is a great adventure.
Hampton Beach is a very popular New Hampshire vacation
spot. There are many, many places to stay when visiting. The Ashworth
Hotel (www.ashworthhotel.com) is a lovely old hotel directly across
from the ocean. Another great place to stay is the Sea Spiral Motel
(www.hamptonbeachresorts.com). No day use fees. Parking fees are not cheap. Pets and
alcohol are discouraged.
Hampton Beach hosts numerous events throughout the summer
including free nightly concerts, catamaran regatta, sand sculpting competition,
and a seafood festival. July and August are the optimum times to visit Hampton
Beach. However, be prepared for large crowds.
