Cressey Beach and Half Moon Beach are two of the most
scenic beaches in Gloucester, Massachusetts. They are small beaches,
but are nestled in between the rocky coast of Stage Fort Park in Gloucester. Very gentle surf is the norm at Cressey and Half Moon
Beaches.
Hiking, picnicking, and swimming are recommended at
these Massachusetts beaches. There are numerous picnic tables available
for beach visitors. Easy to traverse trails run throughout the park
and along the edge of the beaches. Although the ocean water is cold,
swimming at these beaches is very pleasant.
Cressey and Half Moon Beaches have fantastic scenery
including great views of Gloucester Harbor and rock formations –
some of which are suitable for climbing.
Gloucester is a popular site to visit particularly since
the movie “The Perfect Storm” was filed here. Numerous hotels
and bed/breakfast places are available including the Gloucester Inn
(www.gloucesterinnbythesea.com) and Cape Marina (www.capemarinaresort.com).
Pets are allowed off season (October-March). Parking
fees, but no day use fees. No alcohol or driving on the beach. Cressey and Half Moon Beaches are tucked away within
the confines of the park, so it tends to draw visitors who are familiar
with the area. As the beaches are small, it’s best to get there
early in the day to secure a sport on the beach.
