Cranes Beach in Ipswich, Massachusetts
is one of the most popular beaches in Massachusetts. It is part of the
summer estate of industrialist Richard Crane. Castle Hill, the home
of Richard Crane, is open for tours. The beautiful white sands of Cranes
Beach go on for miles making it one of the most picturesque beaches
in New England.
Surf is average for this part of the US.
Be wary of offshore sandbars, as the current can be strong around them.
With 5.5 miles of trails, Crane’s
is a good walking/hiking spot. Horseback riding is allowed off-season.
Cranes Beach is also an important nesting
site for the piping plover, a threatened bird. Additionally, Cranes
has magnificent dunes. Pets are allowed off season (from October
through March). Day use fees are in effect year round. Every year in August Crane’s Beach
hosts a renowned sand sculpture competition. It draws a large crowd.
