Harbor Seal pups at Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge.
Massachusetts’ Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge is a complex ecosystem chock full of rare habitats for native New England plants and birds, but it is perhaps better known for its historic lighthouse, miles of inviting, white-sand beaches and world-class Massachusetts fishing than its conservation mission. The Refuge includes important an ecologically important maritime dunes system that envelops more than 200 acres and provides a home to a multiplicity of Massachusetts flora and fauna, such as gray seals and harbor seals.

Coskata-Coatue is an excellent destination for and both recreation and education on a Massachusetts vacation. Seasonal tours permit visitors to explore both the natural wonders of the Refuge and Great Point Lighthouse. Guests who obtain over-sand vehicle permits for qualified vehicles can take advantage of miles of dune roads.

There are some basic amenities available at Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge. Public restrooms (located mid-way between the Wauwinet Gatehouse and Great Point Lighthouse as well as at the Great Point Lighthouse itself) are open from May 1st to October 31st and there is a bike-rack at the Wauwinet Gatehouse.
