In 1961, the Cape Cod National Seashore
was designated a national park. Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, Massachusetts
is one of six designated beaches in the park. Because of this designation,
there's serenity at Coast Guard Beach (and other National Seashore beaches)
that you don't find at other Massachusetts beaches. Yankee Magazine
named Coast Guard Beach as having one of the best sand beaches in New
England.
Coast Guard Beach has great waves and
boogie boarders love it. Because of its national park status, there
are numerous activities for beach lovers. Swimming, tanning, and walking
at Coast Guard Beach are particularly good.
Shorebirds in the area are drawn to this
beach. Seals sometimes can be found in the area.
Ocean Park Inn and Captains Quarters Motel
in Eastham are both good choices to places to stay when visiting Coast
Guard Beach. Off road driving on the beach is allowed once a permit
has been acquired from the town.
Thousands of people flock to Coast Guard
Beach every summer. Locals often frequent the beach off-season. For
swimmers, the summer is the best time for a visit. But there is also
something appealing about a winter visit to the beach. The solitude
is spiritually uplifting.
