Overview ofPocomoke River State Park- Facts,Trivia,and Historical Information : With 14,753 wooded acres in the Southwestern section of Worcester County, between Snow Hill and Pocomoke City, the state forest, which includes the state park, is famous for it's stand of loblolly pine and for it's cypress swamps which border the Pocomoke River. Pocomoke means black water, and there is good fishing in these waters. The river originates in the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly to the Chesapeake Bay. The park's combination of swamp and upland offers a great variety of plant and animal life, including white dogwood and pink mountain laurel in the spring, river otters and bald eagles, and over 50 species of fish. Pocomoke River State Park falls within the confines of Pocomoke State Forest. Two recreational areas are defined: Shad Landing Area and Milburn Landing Area. Each offers superb recreational opportunities including camping, youth camping, rustic camper cabins, picnic areas with pavilions, boat launches, and great fishing opportunities. Shad Landing has a nature center where ranger-led nature programs enlighten folks of all ages. It is also the area featuring the summer swimming pool. Pets are permitted at Milburn Landing but not Shad Landing. Hunting and off-road-vehicle use is permitted on state forest land only.
