Janes Island State ParkLocated in southeastern Maryland along the shores of Tangier Sound and Big Annemessex River, Janes Island State Park is a 3,147-acre natural resource where canoeing, physical fitness, boating, camping, and crabbing entertain visitors. Miles of isolated shoreline and marsh areas are perfect for anglers and paddlesport enthusiasts. There are two distinct areas, a developed mainland and a remote portion accessible only by boat. The original island inhabitants were Native Americans of the Annemessex Nation. Janes Island State Park is a scenic area offering the visitor a choice ranging from a remote getaway to a thrilling paddling competition. Every year the park hosts The Delmarva Canoe and Kayak Circuit, a five race point series in which paddlers from novice to advanced can compete in any one of 22 classes and accumulate points to vie for the circuit championship in their class. Looking for a quieter escape? Janes Island boasts approximately 2,900 acres of marsh, beach and high land where paddlers can explore small waterways within the island. Most of the waterways are protected from wind and current providing ideal conditions for the novice as well as the experienced canoeist.
