Catocin Mountain Park

Catocin Mountain Park in Maryland was originally intended to be recreational camps for federal employees. One of the camps ultimately became the Presidential retreat Camp David. Unsurprisingly the Presidential retreat isn’t accessible to the general public, but the forests of Catoctin Mountain Park offer visitors a variety of outdoor adventure opportunities.

There are a wide range of experiences to be had within the 25 miles of hiking trails traversing both Catoctin Mountain Park and nearby Cunningham Falls State Park, from painless paths to terrible treks, though hikes of various difficulty-levels still lead to outstanding scenic views. Catoctin Mountain Park’s roads offer scenic driving opportunities year-round except for the portions of Park Central Road and Manahan Road that are closed during the winter. In addition, camping, wildlife observation, fly-fishing, cross country skiing can all be enjoyed at Catoctin Mountain Park.

Catoctin Mountain Park also offers an array of educational programs for 1st through 7th graders. Just call the Visitor Center ((301) 663-9388) to learn more. Additionally, the park offers a summer program called "Misty Mount Kids" at Camp Misty Mount for visitors staying at Camp Misty Mount.
