Calvert Cliffs is a wonderfully scenic park overlooking the cliffs that dominate 30 miles of Chesapeake Bay shoreline. Existing in Southern Maryland, they were formed 15 million years ago by a warm and shallow sea. Over 600 species of fossils have been identified from these cliffs, with the teeth of various species of shark as the most abundant fossils. A short hike enables visitors to explore the ancient lands. However, there is a 1,000-acre tract within the park that is designated as "wildlands." Use restrictions apply. This beautiful maritime park is open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset.
