Located in the Western Travel Region, Big Run State Park is a relatively undeveloped parcel of 300 acres where flatwater canoeing, cross-country skiing, and rustic camping are favorites. It is located on the northern tip of Savage River Reservoir, encompassing the confluence of Monroe Run and Big Run. Administration of the park is managed by New Germany State Park, which is located several miles north. The well-known hiking trail, Monroe Run, has its trailhead in the park. In addition, anglers find success with the populations of large and smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, channel catfish, yellow perch, brown trout, brook trout, and rainbow trout.
